Tell the Community a little about yourself:
I have been traveling with my wheechair bound brother for nearly 30 years. We have flown, cruised, done driving/hotel trips, etc.

During that time I have become intimately familiar with the issues and challenges facing wheelchair travelers and their companions. From picking the right stateroom on a ship, or the right seat on a plane, or the best hotel in terms of it's accessibility, and it's location, we have learned a few lessons over the years.

We started all this long before the Americans with Disabilities Act, so we are aware how much better things have gotten, and how far we have to go.

We have also met many other people with many different disabilities, and have learned from them.

One of the major drivers of Dave Holman Travel Services is the desire to pass on what we have learned.

We believe everyone should, and CAN, with the right tools and attitude, go where they want to go, and do what they want to do.

Carnival Splendor, 05/03/09

Just back from my second trip on the Carnival Splendor. I was on a two day Cruise to Nowhere in March. She is still beautiful. I have reviewed her before, and gave in-depth information on the ship itself, so this review is just going to be some random impressions of things I didn't get to on the previous trip. There will also be several other reviews of this sailing, which will probably give more detail on the itinerary. I finally had the chance to try all the buffet options, which was imposs… Continue

Carnival Splendor 2 day Cruise to Nowhere

The Carnival Splendor is an absolutely beautiful ship. Much of the commentary has been about the "Pinkness" - personally, thought it was okay, mostly a soft pink, and with compementary colors that toned it down...and it is far from Joe Farcus' (Carnival's long-time Architect, responsible for some of the boldest and glitziest ships at sea) wildest interior. The layout of the Splendor would be familiar enough to anyone who has cruised the Conquest Class ships of Carnival - with some elements added… Continue

MSC Lirica review

Wasted Potential I am just going to give an overview of my recent 10 day Caribbean sailing on the MSC Lirica. For those who might be interested in more day to day detail, I wrote a live daily review, and you can view it here: http://www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=941026 First to give credit where it is due, the ship is maintained beautifully, and there was no hint that she is six years old, although the basic design is older than that, and from the wheelchair accessibility angle,… Continue

AIRPLANES and WHEELCHAIRS

I have written about me and my brothers first experience on a cruise ship with a wheelchair, and how vastly better cruise ships are today, in terms of wheelchair accessibility. The same is true of hotels. In our early wheelchair traveling days, hotels were generally a major hassle, with narrow doors, totally inaccessible bathrooms, etc. In the last few years, however, nearly every hotel we have stayed in has been relatively accomodating, with many barrier-free showers, larger rooms (or rooms wit… Continue

AMTRAK - Ridin' the Rails

Amtrak - Riding the Rails An oft-overlooked vacation style, Amtrak. Although the Golden Age of Train Travel passed decades ago, there is still much to recommend using Amtrak for your next vacation. I have taken the Amtrak's Sunset Limited (Los Angeles to Orlando) round trip, the Southwest Chief (Chicago to Los Angeles) end to end and the Texas Eagle (San Antonio to Chicago) end to end.I have also ridden partial routes from LA to Oregon, St. Louis to Kansas City, and New York to D.C. One thing a… Continue

Thanks Dave,
I just really love what I do and when people are getting married or even just looking forward to that next vacation they are happy and that makes my job easy. I appreciate that when you are making travel plans you are spending good dollars and it's your time, maybe your only holiday time in the year and you want it to be special no matter what the occasion. So the last thing you want to do is pay all that money, get there and not have the things you need to make the most out of your trip. So I am a U.S. based agency in Canada so I work with all the U.S. packagers too and I would be happy to help people find destinations that were wheelchair accessable- that's major for sure as it' inhibits what you can do at the resort.

Hi Dave,
What a great site for people to resource hotel, resorts and packagers that understand and respect the needs of wheelchair guests. I am going to start paying more attention to accessable resorts and destinations that can make wheelchair travelers really enjoy and make the most of their vacation time!

This is great David and God Bless to you and your brother for being so close to each other and thoughtful of others as well. This will be a great source of information to help the wheelchair bound clients get their reservations as comfortably as anyone elses needs or wants. Thank you for letting me know about this site.
